In Rwanda, some  82.3% of the households use private latrines for human waste disposal. In the City of Kigali, this proportion is 50.2% while another 43.7% uses public latrines. This second facility is used by 13.1% of households in the country. Flush toilets are rare and are found mainly in urban areas with barely 3.4% of the households in Kigali City using such facilities.
